MATCH 2 - Mens League Report

:o Men’s League Report - Match 2 – 17th May 2008– Meadowbank

Cold, Wet, and a 9.45 am start in the JWSC car park, well it was for some of us, others 10.00 some 10.15, some had to be picked up on route, and of course some didn’t turn up at all. No names eh!! Jambo?

The field events kicked off at 12 noon sharp and with the Pole Vault cancelled; David Robertson and Craig McEwan were free to do multiple events. Especially grateful after last month’s double pole injuries. Every cloud has a silver lining.

The Hammer also kicked off at 12noon, still with no heavy throwers in the club, old me threw 21 mts to finish 6th in the A string but with no B string thrower we dropped points.

In the Long Jump Craig McEwan came 3rd in the B with a jump of 4.89 mts and David Robertson came 4th with 5.71 mts.

The throwers were back in action in the shot where Iain McEwan Jnr
Threw a monster 8.74 mts to finish 7th and Scott Davidson threw 7.79 mts to come 5th. We still badly need big, powerful throwers, Mickey, Stuart, any one know anyone?

The track started of with the 400 mts hurdles, Scott Davidson came 3rd with a 60.09 sec run, with David Robertson volunteering for the B came 1st with a 62.2 run. Good volunteering if you ask me?

This was quickly followed by the 800mts, where Alistair Campbell, who forgot to warm up? Ran a 2.00-minute race and Paul White a 2.05 ish, sorry guys didn’t get exact times or placing.

The 100 mts flat was contested with Iain McEwan Jnr in the A and Craig McEwan in the B, coming 2nd and 4th in times of 11.52 and 12.20 respectively, both into strong headwinds.

At the Javelin, where we were not let down. George Dingwall finished second with a launch of 49.78 mts. And Craig McEwan also came second with a throw of 37.36 mts . The unfavourable tail wind doing no favours for the throwers.

In the 3000 mtr Steeplechase, we have not been blessed with Joe Kealeys appearance yet this season, but we found a new stand in. Paul White ran a credible race scoring well in the points but due to technical difficulties, no times were posted. Stuart Gibson ran his usual gutsy great race.

The 110 mts hurdles is one of those events everyone looks at, stands hip high beside the hurdle and says, no way man. However Iain McEwan Jnr came 3rd in 17.439 seconds. Mark Stringer finished in 22.34 seconds, agonisingly 0.34 seconds out of the standard. Untill Alan Scott decides to come and run the B string, Marks our only hope.

In the 400 mts flat Scott Davidson and Stuart Jamieson competed in the A and B. Scott finished 5th in 52.13 secs and Stuart came 3rd with a PB in 53.4 seconds, with a good blasted first 200 in a bad lane drawn 7.

David Robertson jumped 11.44 mts in the triple jump and had two longer attempts, which were DQ’d but with no B string we dropped a few points here.

The 200 mts were next, Iain McEwan Jnr finished 8th in 24.37 seconds and Mark Stringer just missed the points with a run otside 27.00 secs.

In the Discus, Craig McEwan threw 24.10 mts whilst running between the High Jump and changing shoes, to finish 7th in the A, not bad. Keith threw poorly with a 21.79 mts to finish 4th.

At the High Jump, Craig McEwan jumped 1.60 mts and David Robertson cleared 1.65 mts, unfortunately I did not get placings.

In the 1500 mts Stuart Gibson and Martin Duthie, competed in a very busy field. I think both divisions were combined and placing were not posted, sorry guys, but well done anyway.

The 200 mts were next, Iain McEwan Jnr finished 2nd in 22.90 seconds a vast improvement on the last meeting and Mark Stringer just missd out again on the qualifying time of 27.00 seconds.

The 5000 mts quickly followed where Stuart Gibson and Martin Duthie slogged twelve and a half times round the track , well done guys. Sorry I did not get placings or results.

The relays are always the climax of the meetings with the 4 x 100 followed immediately with the 4 x 400, hard going if you are running in both! For only the second time in three seasons no one needed to run both.

The 4 x 100 mts was David Robertson, Craig McEwan, Mark Stringer and Ian McEwan Jnr coming home in a terrific 3rd place.

The 4 x 400 mts was Paul White, Stuart Jamieson, Alistair Campbell and Scott Davidson coming home in a fantastic 2nd place.

At one point during the day we were sitting in second place, finally overall results on the day secured a fantastic fourth place for the second meeting.

If were not careful we could end up staying in the 1st Division?

Whilst every one competed well today, Paul taking on the 3K chase, Craig doing six events, the Team Managers Man of the Match goes to
Ian McEwan Jnr with his usual 5 events, no quibbles and great results.

Special thanks to Steven Whyteside who was our Official Field official for the day and to Graeme Legatte and Julie Whyteside who was our Mascot and un official officials.

The Third meeting is also at Meadowbank on the 29th of June back to a Sunday. This is only 5 weeks away and I need to know who is or is not available as soon as possible. I would also appreciate any one who would be willing to volunteer to assist on the day.
We must provide a minimum of three helpers on the day, one of which must be graded, Stephen covers this criterion, but we need two helpers!!

Many Thanks to one and all, and well done to the Lads.
Keith Stoddart Team Manager 2008.

Well done guys ! Proud of everyone of you. If we can find a couple of throwers we could achieve greatness. Brilliant spirit in the team, no small part of which is due to the Team Managers committment.

Well done everyone.

PS We have a few girls competing at Grangemouth tomorrow who wouldn't say no to a bit of support.

Cheers

FOURTH!! :o

I find that a massive achievment for ourselves to have finished in the top half of the mens league in division 1!! I didnt realise we were still missing out on sum B strings such as the triple jump and hammer, but we potentially could now finish in the top 4 of this competition for this year. This just shows the commitment and heart of the team we have but there are still events we cud capatilise on, such as the field events mentioned, that cud possibly have us finish in an even higher position. Hopefully being in such a great position will attract others to help out and be part of the most successful Whitemoss AAC mens league team to date 8-)

As i dont usually work on Sundays Keith, i wont take any shifts then so i shud be avialable for the next meeting so u can sign me up :P

Thats a brilliant result and i totally agree that it is down to the amount of dedicated athletes that took aprt and with the detremination that is shown by everyone. Here's hoping that we are able to get someone who could help us out with some of the field events such as hammer. Just typical for me isnt it too miss out on the cut by so liitle, (maybe some luck at next weeks lol)

Keith Ill be the on the 29th as usual. :) :)

Absoloutely fantastic result yesterday. Don't know why but for some reason I much preferred competing on a Saturday rather than a Sunday. Whereas before we've struggled for seniors, this seems to be one of the stronger age groups at Whitemoss. This is as good a mens league team as I can remember. Everyone did their bit yesterday. We are well ahead of Giffnock for one who always seem to hammer us in CSSAL.

Sorry to say I can't make it on the 29th but I seem to have an able steeplechase understudy. Count me in for the usual bag of tricks though 2 weeks later.

Stuart
